Fantasy Football: The Phinest Waiver Wire Adds – Week 13

It is week 13 of the season, somehow. Hopefully, the season has gone so fast because of how much fun you’re having and not because you’re wishing your fantasy team’s misery away. We are officially in playoff strategy territory and should be picking up layers to specifically make the playoffs, take players away from your opponent, stashing players to take advantage of upcoming matchups that you might be streaming. Let’s take a look at who you should add this week!

Chuba Hubbard

With Christian McCaffrey out for the year due to his second stint on the injured reserve, Chuba Hubbard will be the best long-term add for the remainder of the season. in weeks 4-8 Chuba was the starter and he averaged 20.4 touches per game and 83.4 total yards while scoring two touchdowns. A running back averaging 20 touches could be available. What I like about him more than other options is that Hubbard should have this backfield through the remainder of the fantasy playoffs. Those playoff games hover, are against the likes of Buffalo, Tampa, and New Orleans. Those are not exactly teams you’d try to pick on in the run game, but the opportunity may just get the job done here.

Jamal Williams

One of this year’s fantasy darlings is D’Andre Swift. He suffered a shoulder injury on thanksgiving that will hold him out for the foreseeable future. This is not the first time he has had an issue with this shoulder which raises concern for the rest of the season. That means Jamaal Williams is the next man up, who already was very involved in the Lions game plan. Against Chicago, he touched the ball 15 times on the ground and also caught 5 passes. This starting position may only be temporary with the return of swift. The ceiling may not be as high each week but Williams is plenty involved in both facets of the game that make a solid RB2.

Tua Tagovailoa

With 4 wins in a row, the Miami Dolphins are becoming more fantasy-relevant thanks to Tua Tagovailoa. The use case for picking up Tua is still only needed for bye weeks or to fill in due to injury. With running mate Jaylen Waddle at wide receiver, however, Tua could just be one pass away from a big touchdown. Consider him a solid streaming option with a limited ceiling. In his game against Carolina, he completed 27 of 31 passes which only resulted in 230 passing yards and a touchdown. If you’re looking for a quarterback who could win you a week, Tua may not be your guy.

Curtis Samuel

Curtis Samuel should be widely available in your league due to missing so much time this year. On Monday night he did nothing that will excite your other league mates into picking him up either. The path to relevancy for Samuel is actually due to J.D. McKissic getting injured and being out for at least a few weeks. Samuel should assume the McKissic role specifically in the passing game and will pick up carries as well. McKissic ran two touchdowns in on Monday night, and Samuel will have that opportunity to continue to vulture touchdowns.

Cardinals D/ST

The Cardinals’ defense has been solid during the 2021 season. They may or may not be available depending on if your league members held onto them through the Bye. This next week they get the Bears who are not exactly humming on offense. Regardless of who is starting at quarterback, the defense should be able to take advantage. They get the Rams the following week who may not sound like an ideal matchup, but right now Matthew Stafford can’t see the difference in jersey colors during the game. They round out this 3 game stretch with the Lions who are about as good a matchup as it gets which may be at the start of your playoff run.
